    【Regional Revitalization and Governance】

    Interdisciplinary Micro-Program

    【Mission】

    This micro-course program centers on local revitalization and regional governance. It connects topics from various academic disciplines and related departments, including history and culture, civil society and participation, and natural sciences, to design this thematic micro-course program. The aim is to enhance students’ interdisciplinary integration abilities in democracy and law, civic participation and social innovation, community building, and tourism. This program seeks to cultivate STEAM talent and establish a foundation for holistic education.

    【Course Planning】

    Students must complete at least one course in each of the three domains-“Foundational Interdisciplinary Studies,” “Thematic Issues,” and “Practical Orientation”-within the chosen micro-course program, for a total of at least four courses. Additionally, they must achieve passing grades in these courses to qualify for the issuance of the program certificate.

    Foundational Interdisciplinary Studies

    Civil Society and Participation (S Group) DEMOCRATIC POLITICS The purpose of this course intends to teach the students to understand the concept and content of democratic politics, to observe the political process in Taiwan and other deomcracies, and to enable the students to analyze democratic politics issues.

    Thematic Issues

    Civil Society and Participation (S Group) SOCIAL INNOVATION Social innovation is a collaborative approach by public-private partnerships to address wicked issues in contemporary civil society. It seeks to find innovative solutions to these complex and challenging problems. The ideals of social innovation are often delivered through social enterprise. This course introduces the fundamental concepts of social innovation and its relevance to CSR, USR, SDGs, and ESG. In the meantime, we discuss relevant issues between social enterprises and the public sector. In addition, Taiwan and other countries are discussed as examples of social innovation.

    Civil Society and Participation (S Group) NONPROFIT ORGANISATION AND GLOBAL ISSUES The nonprofit organizations have become more powerful in recent years. The nonprofit organization can meet specific customer needs and help country’s development. So, we need to learn the nonprofit organizations from different aspects.

    Civil Society and Participation (S Group) SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY AND PUBLIC PARTICIPATION This course will focus on the essence of democracy-civil participation, and learn how to participate in a democratic society. We learn new concepts, new models, and new methods of civil participation, and have practical simulation exercises, observations, and explorations.

    Thematic Issues

    Civil Society and Participation (S Group) INFORMATION AND LAWS Information Technology (IT) is now affecting every aspect of our lives. With the development of relevant technologies, especially in the field of Artificial Intelligence, the effects on the interactions between individuals, businesses and governments is unprecedented. As a basic introduction to the interaction between IT and law, this Course hopes that through the systematic introduction of the various issues, students can understand the legal challenges brought about by information technology.

    Practical Orientation

    Department of Architecture COMMUNITY SERVICE AND PRACTICE This course is a community service course offered by the Department of Architecture. It aims to select one or two real communities, lead students into these communities, encourage public participation, and work with the public to build the community. During the service process, appropriate time is arranged for discussion and reflection to modify the methods and content of service and techniques.

    Practical Orientation

    Department of Transportation Management TOUR PLANNING The normal tour plan usually consists of magnificent spotlights from both landscape and culture. However, the degree of agreement to the designed package differs from types of persons upon social-economic characteristics. The demand analysis could help students explore the focus group in the market upon diverse aspects. By applying text mining, students can also quickly integrate the dynamic market information and adequately modify it to make the exciting designed trips fit the needs of patrons. Finally, students must complete their own special exclusive tour plans and itineraries.
