    Interdisciplinary Micro-Program

    【Mission】

    The core of this program is the cultivation of "Humanistic Knowledge" and "Gender Awareness." It guides students to explore diverse gender issues through various academic disciplines, including literature, social analysis, philosophy and religion, and natural sciences. By leveraging the expertise of our university and industry professionals, the program aims to expand students' understanding of gender equality practices and further nurture STEAM talent.

     

    【Course Planning】

    Students must complete at least one course in each of the three domains—"Foundational Interdisciplinary Studies," "Thematic Issues," and "Practical Orientation"—within their chosen micro-course program, for a total of at least four courses. Additionally, they must achieve passing grades in these courses to qualify for the issuance of the program certificate.

    Foundational Interdisciplinary Studies

    Social Analysis (W Group) GENDER AND SOCIETY This course provides fundamental concepts and important theories of gender equality, as well as how gender differences influence the development of individuals and society. The course aims to encourage students to reflect on their own gender values, attitudes towards interpersonal relationships, and to become more aware of gender-related issues in our society.

    Foundational Interdisciplinary Studies

    Natural Sciences (U Group) GENDER AND SCIENCE This Course explains the origin of sexual differentiation from the evolutionary biology point of view. How that affects the human society today and form gender issues is also a focus of discussion. Historically famous non-“man”-stream (female and homosexual) scientists will be plotted to contemplate the meaning and the future of gender equality.

    Civil Society and Participation (S Group)

    CIVIL SOCIETY This course aims to train students in their understanding and analytical abilities regarding public affairs. It will be divided into two parts. The first part will focus on the relationship between civil society and the state, including the definition of citizenship, electoral systems, political democratization, and referendum. The second part will focus on the critical issues in Taiwan. This course is bilingual; half of the topics will be taught in English, and the other topics will be taught in Chinese. For international students who don’t know Chinese, please don’t select this class.

    Literature and Classics (L Group) SELECTED READINGS IN CHINESE LITERATURE : LOVE AND LIFE Read classic works of Chinese classical and modern literature to develop appreciation and interpretation skills. Through dialogue with the works, we can reflect on the meaning of life, social responsibility, and cultivate the spirit of humanistic care.     Thematic Issues Philosophy and Religion (V Group) GENDER:THEORY AND PRACTICE This course is designed to introduce contemporary gender theory and how “doing gender”. We will focus on key issues such as sex and gender, masculinity and femininity, identity politics and difference politics, queer theory and LGBTIQ rights movement. By discussing papers and movies in classroom, the learners will be expected to cultivate the art of critical thinking about gender relations and inequalities.

    INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIP & COMMUNICATION This class is to teach students the basic knowledge of human relationships and to enhance the ability of communication. Establish their well relationships and mental health living lives.

    THE SENSE AND SENSIBILITY TO HAPPINESS Using a co-teaching approach, the course guides students through self-reflection and exploration through foundational courses in psychology, sociology, economics, and management. The planning of this course is a four-week self-study course. During these four weeks, students will be given various self-exploration information. With the help and guidance of the teacher, students can complete the proposal and share of the "Happiness Blueprint", allowing students to think about how to pursue a happier, more meaningful life.

    Practical Orientation

    Arts Appreciation and Creation (M Group) THE PRACTICE OF PLAY-READING Theatre is the combination presentation of multiple artistic forms. Through executing ‘Playing Reading’, the rhythms and musicality of a play would be sensed; the hidden emotions and meanings would be revealed. This module – The Practice of Play Reading will be categorized by different subjects. Students will be instructed to explore the meaning of different scripts, and the various ways of presenting scripts.
    Practical Orientation Arts Appreciation and Creation (M Group) PERFORMING ARTS AND PRATICE 'Performing Arts' is an umbrella term, which contains wide definitions. This module could be divided into two sections: Euro-American contemporary theatre and Asian theatre. Images, videos, play texts and theatrical exercises will be applied as materials to introduce intercultural performing arts to the students. In addition to introducing various performing forms, the students will also be asked to conduct a theatre piece in order to further understand the making of theatrical works.
